In what may turn out to be one of the greatest bromances of our time, Dax Shepard scored a date with Brad Pitt — the longtime crush he describes as the “love of my life.” The Bless This Mess star shared the exciting update on his budding friendship with Pitt while visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, which is fitting when you consider that’s where this bromance first sparked just over a year ago.
To recap, Shepard’s self-proclaimed crush on Pitt became public fodder when DeGeneres gifted him a pair of Pitt-covered-overalls for his birthday. Then, in September of 2019, DeGeneres surprised Shepard while he was guest-hosting by cueing up a clip of Pitt admitting to DeGeneres, “I have a bit of a crush on Dax Shepard.” So, on Tuesday’s episode of her show, the hilarious host mentioned that he hadn’t really seen Shepard since that moment. Referring to Pitt as the love of his life, Shepard joked that it was a risky move to reveal that Pitt reciprocated Shepard’s crush mid-show. “But I proceeded on, we finished the show. I landed the plane,” he said, before adding, “But I went on a date with him.”
And, as Shepard went on to describe, it wasn’t just any date. It was a “spectacular” date that gave him flashbacks to an iconic rom-com: Pretty Woman.
So, what did the guys do? “We took a helicopter — you think I’m lying — we took a helicopter to a motorcycle track. We both love riding motorcycles. And just the two of us just took a jaunt up to this motorcycle track,” Shepard revealed, gushing, “I felt like Pretty Woman, I did. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I was waiting for him to set that chopper down on Rodeo and let me just go wild in one of those stores with his credit card. If it had happened, it wouldn’t have surprised me. It was that incredible.”
Shepard also referenced another film in detailing his man-date. “So, we went up, and he’s everything you’d hope. He attacked that track like his character from Troy — he’s a warrior on two wheels.” Alas, as perfect as the date sounds, Shepard says he did walk away with one regret. Due to their head-to-toe leather ensembles, he did not get a peek at Pitt’s mythic physique. “I wasn’t seeing any trapezia, no abs,” he quipped.
As DeGeneres pointed out, though, there’s always hope for a second date. It’s an idea Shepard (and, let’s face it, all of us) took to quickly. Speaking directly to the camera, he said, “Brad, let’s hit the beach, my friend.”
