George Clooney awkwardly helps glam wife Amal off boat for romantic Venice date

George Clooney and his wife Amal raised a few eyebrows when they turned up to Venice Film Festival on Tuesday amid the Hollywood strike, and now it appears they’re raising a glass too.

The 62-year-old actor and barrister Amal are two of a reduced celebrity attendee list at the 80th international film festival as the SAG-AFTRA strikes deter A-listers.

After strolling into the canal-clad city in their casual wear on Tuesday, the pair shimmied into evening get-ups for what appeared to be a seriously enviable date night.

The Money Monster actor looked super chic in a navy blue suit as he helped a particularly glamorous Amal off their boat into the canal-side eatery, Ristorante Da Ivo.

It didn’t look the most nimble affair, as George supported Amal’s arm in the tricky maneuver from boat to land.

But they got there eventually, and Amal was all smiles in a gorgeous bright green silky slip dress with a ruffled, feminine bottom, and draping neckline.

The legal whiz had fresh highlights for the date night, as hair stylist Dimitris Giannetos shared a picture of the couple ahead of their evening and took credit where credit was due.

He wrote: ‘The CLOONEYS 💚 English toffee highlights for Gorgeous #amalclooney last night in Venice Italy ! Hair/makeup 🙋🏼‍♂️.’

‘Since it’s the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, I was inspired by the change of season in Venice and wanted to create a shade that was somewhere between blonde and brown – English toffee is perfect for early autumn,’ Giannetos told Vogue.

Earlier this summer, George made his stance on the strikes clear, offering his support for the action, which began in July.

He told the PA news agency in a statement: ‘This is an inflection point in our industry. Actors and writers in large numbers have lost their ability to make a living.

‘For our industry to survive that has to change. For actors that journey starts now.’

George met human rights lawyer Amal through a mutual friend during a casual Italian dinner, and they’ve now been married for almost a decade.

The movie star previously admitted Amal changed his mind on the idea of marriage.

He told E! News: ‘I didn’t want to get married; I didn’t want to have kids. And then this extraordinary human being walked into my life and I just fell madly in love.’
