TRYING to bleach dark hair to get it a beautiful shade of blonde can be really tricky, and it’s something that takes hairstylists years of training to properly nail.
But recently, more and more people have decided to give it a go themselves on TikTok – with often mixed results.
One TikToker, who posts on social media as @marshmallowstarz, decided to try it herself and document her results.
The natural brunette posted a series of videos of the process, racking up hundreds of thousands of views as users became more and more invested.
She began by coating the entire length of her tresses with 30 volume bleach, in a process that took more than 40 mins.
“The mix I got on my skin made me itch so bad,” she captioned a sped-up clip of her dousing her hair with the mixture.

She then popped a plastic shower-cap over her head, while waiting for the transformation to occur.
But when she washed off the product, she was left with a colour that was less bleach blonde and more “banana” – “a cute banana though,” as she put it.
@Marshmallowstarz then decided to give her roots another go, posting yet another clip of her applying lightener to her root with a paintbrush.
Coming on screen with a towel wrapped around her head, the amateur colourist removed it to reveal the final result: a yellowy-orange tone with super-light roots.

But in a change of heart, she ditched the blonde and took the whole thing a dramatic hot-pink shade.
“I’m obsessed with this pink,” she told the camera, “I love it.”
And invested viewers clearly agreed that despite the rather turbulent journey to get there, the final result was pretty impressive.
“Wow!! It’s gorgeous,” one wrote.
