Where NHS staff can keep getting food and drink discounts

Eat Out to Help Out was a scheme set up for August to encourage Brits to get back in local businesses and stimulate the economy following months of lockdown.

The scheme sees 50% discounts on food and non-alcoholic drinks for a maximum of up to £10 per diner.

It is set to come to an end at the end of the month, with some establishments including Harvester and Toby Carvery choosing to extend the discounts, or begin offering different discount options.

While Chancellor Rishi Sunak being urged to extend the scheme nationwide, NHS workers will continue receiving more widespread discounts at eateries in the UK.

Where can NHS staff keep getting discounts?

NHS workers, emergency services and social care workers can continue getting deals and discounts at venues across the UK – even after the Eat Out to Help Out initiative has ended.

Food and drink brands are offering discounts through the Blue Light Card, the UK’s biggest discount service for the NHS, emergency services and social care workers.

The discounts are applicable on varying days and include:

  • Pizza Hut Delivery – 50% off online orders
  • Toby Carvery – 20% off food (Monday – Saturday)
  • Greene King – 20% off food.
  • ASK Italian –  25% off food for up to 8 diners (Sunday – Thursday).
  • Starbucks – 10% off the whole bill.
  • Whitbread Inns – 33% off food.
  • YO! Sushi – 25% off food when you dine in (Sunday – Friday)

What’s more, Blue Light Card holders can enjoy discounts at over 15,000 retailers, for discounts on footwear, electronics and more.

Discounts are only shown once you have signed up for the card and signed in, but in the past, discounts have been valid at places including Superdry, Odeon Cinema and Iceland, as reported on moneysavingexpert.

Tom Dalby, CEO of Blue Light Card, said: ‘Over the past few months, millions of key workers have been keeping us safe throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Before and during lockdown, we’ve been sharing lots of exclusive online discounts through our website and app. But now our high streets are reopening, it is fantastic to be able to provide a small ‘thank you’ to the NHS, emergency services and social care workers for their dedication and hard work, through long-standing partnerships with some of our favourite food and drink venues across the country.’
