Inside the 'mind blowing' overnight ferry that's like a luxury cruise – and is cheaper than the train | The Sun

A TOURIST has discovered an overnight ferry that they claim is more luxurious than a cruise ship, and cheaper than getting a train.

Travelling from one city to another can be both boring and uncomfortable, with a ride on public transport no one's ideal way to spend a holiday.

However, in Japan that's far from the case, as travel content creator Tina (@hangrybynature) found out.

She took a trip on the Sunflower Murasaki Ferry, which she compared to a luxury cruise, with a spa, buffets and even the chance to turn bedrooms into private cinemas.

In a reel she shared on Instagram, she said: "Nobody is talking about Japan's insane overnight ferries.

"It's cheaper than catching the bullet train, and I guarantee it'll blow your mind. This ain't a ferry. This is a whole cruise ship."

She gave her viewers the full tour of the ship, starting with the Japanese spa, or onsen, before making her way around via her traditional Japanese room, a pet daycare centre and the dining area.

She continued: "Get this. There's an entire onsen on this ferry with an amazing view.

"There's also a corner full of vending machines and one that's entirely dedicated to cup noodles.

"I swear, our room was better than most hotels we stayed in, it's Japanese style, with tatami and chabudai, shoji doors, a big TV, and our own private bathroom with the world's best toilet.

"You also get all the amenities like you would at a five star hotel.

"They've thought of everything because there's a whole baby care room. And if you've got a fur baby, no problems, they've got another room for that, too."

Tina was also amazed by the prices and the quality of the food on board the ship, with both her dinner and breakfast buffets proving very affordable.

She added: "Dinner was a $14 (£11) all you can eat buffet in the most beautiful setting.

"The buffet looks amazing. Look at it. There's even a chocolate fountain. Everything was so fresh, from the fish to the veggies, fruits and desserts.

"This is the best food I've ever had on a ferry, by the way. After dinner, we converted our room into a cinema and then turned it into a super cosy bedroom and hit the hay.

"We woke up to catch the sunrise and then went to have a $5 (£4) buffet breakfast with picture perfect views."

The ferry is called the Sunflower Murasaki Ferry, and it runs between Osaka and Beppu in the south of the country.

A one-way fare in a single private room costs roughly $85 (£66.50) according to Tina, although there are also more expensive options available.

Hundreds of thousands of people viewed Tina's video and were amazed by what they'd seen.

One wrote: "Damn these folks thought of every amenity. This looks nicer than most cruise ships."

Another said: "My family once missed the last bullet train, so my parents booked a ferry ride and I had the best time, there was bingo, onsens, buffets and everything."

A third added: "I would travel just to get on that ferry."
