THERE'S a small item you should be bringing with you whenever you travel because it helps the cabin crew do their job – and it keeps you safe and healthy.
I know you've spent a lot on your plane tickets and I'm sorry that I have to say this, but there's parts of our job that we just aren't able to do as well as we or you would like.
For that reason, you need to be bringing anti-bacterial gel, hand sanitiser or some alcohol wipes with you every time you fly.
It may sound like we're asking a lot of you, but here, in my latest blog for Sun Online Travel, I'll explain why it helps us out so much.
You'll need those products to clean your armrests, your seat and your tray table before you sit down.
I know that shouldn't be your job, but we don't have time between flights, nor do the cleaning crews who do an amazing job as it is.

I’m a flight attendant – these are my three biggest passengers ‘icks’
Sorry passengers but new flight attendants aren’t all here for the right reason
Unfortunately, planes are very dirty places and if you want to make sure you're not sitting among a load of germs, you're best off coming prepared.
I'm not saying you need to give your seating area a deep clean, nor am I suggesting you'll get ill if you don't do it.
But it's something I do now because I know how tight the turnaround time is for each flight.
The truth of the matter is, you don't know who's been in your seat before you – or what their cleaning routine is like.

People with all sorts of different opinions on hygiene and cleanliness are flying on our planes and I've seen some things that would make you want to fly in a hazmat suit.
From nappy changing on tray tables to filing toe nails in the seats and everything in between, I've seen it all.
Some people are going to spend more than half a day in those seats and if that was me, I know I'd want it to be as clean as possible.
Even if someone else has cleaned it before me, I want to make absolutely certain that my seat and my tray, where I'm going to be eating my meals, don't have any lingering germs from a dirty nappy.
I also don't want the germs on anyone's feet near me because I know how disgusting the floor is, particularly in the toilets.
I've said it so many times, but the floors are gross, you shouldn't be walking in them barefoot, nor should you be letting kids crawl around in them.
You should be a little bit cleaner on a plane than you are elsewhere – that should be the rule you follow.
A quick wipe down before you sit will give you piece of mind – not doing it could give you a little piece of turd. I know which I'd prefer.
