A Place In The Sun host Laura Hamilton, 38, has spoken out after sending her two young children Rocco and Tahlia back to school today during the coronavirus lockdown. The presenter told her 76,000 Instagram followers she and her husband Alex Goward had made the decision for their family, but also explained the move may not be “right for everyone”.
In a video post, the star said: “So, Monday morning, it was like Christmas in our house this morning because Rocco woke up at five o’clock, got showered and ready and shortly followed by Tahlia, who was screaming, saying, ‘What time can we go to school?’”
Laura went on to explain her two children are in Reception and Year One, who have been permitted to go back to school from today alongside Year Six students, and they were “excited” to go back to class and see their friends and teachers.
She continued: “My two are in Reception and Year One and we took the decision that they were to go back to school.
“They were both so excited, so excited to see their friends, so excited to see their teachers.

“I’m not sure if it’s a sign of just how bad my homeschooling has been over the last five, six weeks, but they were excited.”
Laura went on to acknowledge that sending children back to school during the pandemic is up to individual preference and subject to any health concerns.
She added: “Look, I know it’s not right for everyone, you might have family members who are still shielding or you might just feel it’s not safe for you to send your children back to school at the moment.
“But we took the decision to and judging by what happened this morning, it was the right decision to make.”
Laura also gave fans the opportunity to share their thoughts with her on children returning to school by adding a question to her post, which read: “Did you send your little ones back to school?”
Although many schools have reopened as part of the government’s relaxation of lockdown restrictions, parents do not have to send their children to school if they do not wish to.
Laura previously described homeschooling as a “real struggle” during lockdown last month.
The Channel 4 personality shared a selfie and wrote: “Home School – my favourite thing… in case you didn’t know!…

She said: “So yesterday something happened and I was made aware by a friend of mine that I was in fact on Page 3 of The Sun.
“Not what I was expecting, I didn’t have my top off because I obviously don’t do that kind of thing.
“I was in underwear, which is no different from swimwear. This image was actually used in The Sun in July last year alongside a little article to say that A Place In The Sun is Boris Johnson’s favourite TV show, or one of them.”
Laura added: “Hopefully, it won’t be long until we can all get travelling again and film Boris’ favourite show.”
