Adele has revealed the reason she won't move back to England after marrying sports agent Rich Paul.
The Rolling in the Deep hitmaker, 35, relocated to Los Angeles in 2016, and she recently purchased a mansion in Beverly Hills with her new husband, 41.
In a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Adele explained that she won't live in England again due to the toll it takes on her mental health.
She said: “I get really bad seasonal depression, so the [LA] weather is good for me. It is strange sometimes, because I’m very British."
She added: “Because it’s a bit harder for me to go out nowadays, what I love the most about LA is everyone goes to each other’s houses. I like that.”
According to the NHS, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.
SAD is sometimes known as "winter depression" because the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter.
However, some people with SAD may have symptoms during the summer and feel better during the winter.
Symptoms of SAD can include:
- a persistent low mood
- a loss of pleasure or interest in normal everyday activities
- irritability
- feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness
- feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day
- sleeping for longer than normal and finding it hard to get up in the morning
- craving carbohydrates and gaining weight
- difficulty concentrating
- decreased sex drive
For some people, like Adele, these symptoms can be severe and have a significant impact on their day-to-day activities.
The exact cause of SAD is not fully understood, but it's often linked to reduced exposure to sunlight during the shorter autumn and winter days.
The singer – who has an estimated net worth of £146million- previously claimed she moved to America as she could never afford to live in London.
In 2021, she said she invested in three Beverly Hills mansions in order to get better value for her money. The size of the home she purchased in Los Angeles wouldn't be possible in London.
At the time, she said she looked at houses in the capital city before making the decision to move to America.
Adele appeared to confirm her marriage to Rich at her friend Alan Carr's comedy show in Los Angeles.
Pop Culture Instagram fan account, Deuxmoi, has shared several stories on their page claiming that Adele confirmed that she is now a married woman.
One fan with the Pseudonym, Comedy Gold, said: "I was at Alan Carr's comedy show in LA tonight and Adele was in the audience.
"Alan asked the crowd if anyone got married recently and Adele shouted: 'I did'."
