Anderson Cooper memorialized his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, in a touching tribute.
The CNN journalist announced during an on-air obituary Monday that the heiress and philanthropist died following a battle with advanced stomach cancer. She was 95.
A day later, Cooper shared a series of Instagram pictures of Vanderbilt throughout her life, including a sweet photo of the mother/son duo holding hands before her death.
“In the end, after all else is stripped away, there is only love,” Cooper captioned the images. “My mom believed in love more than anyone. It was her guide, her solace, it’s what drove her, and in her final moments, it is what surrounded her.”

In the end, after all else is stripped away, there is only love. My mom believed in love more than anyone. It was her guide, her solace, it’s what drove her, and in her final moments, it is what surrounded her. “i love you, you know that,” she would say to me, and i did, i knew it from the moment i was born, and i will know it till the moment i die. It was her greatest gift to me.

During his obituary for CNN, Cooper called his mother an “extraordinary woman” who “loved life, and lived it on her own terms.”
“She was always in love. In love with men or with friends or books and art. In love with her children and her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren,” Cooper said. “Love is what she believed in more than anything.”
