Andrea McLean, 50, opened up about feeling “guilt” and “embarrassment” for speaking candidly about one of her lowest moments online today. The Loose Women star said she had to think long and hard before sharing a snippet from her interview with Katie Piper – for her Extraordinary People podcast – on social media this morning.

Taking to her Instagram account, Andrea shared a lengthy post with her 272,000 followers.

In the accompanying sound clip, the mum-of-two spoke openly about her lowest moment with the show’s host.

Yesterday, the Mail Online published a small section of the presenter’s new book This Girl is on Fire, in which she spoke about feeling suicidal following a long and difficult battle with anxiety.

Her post today began: “I thought long and hard before putting up this clip of my interview on Katie Piper’s podcast. I felt shame. Embarrassment.”

She continued: “I didn’t want to face the anger and criticism of people who don’t understand and rather than try to, lash out and tear down. Or worse, roll their eyes and dismiss.

“But I think that for me to talk to you about turning your life around, about making positive changes to your life, it’s important you know just how tough my walk back into the light has been.”

“To show you that if I can do it, so can you,” she positively signed off.

Speaking to television star Katie, Andrea detailed her lowest moment.

She said: “The reason I didn’t do it was I was in a hotel room and I couldn’t get the windows open.”

“And there are days now where when it’s a beautiful sunny day and I’m walking the dog or my daughter looks at me and says something funny, and inside I say a little prayer and I say thank you God for not letting those windows open.”

Andrea, who is married to third husband Nick Feeney, and is mum to Finlay, 18, and Amy, 13, continued: “There’s shame, there’s guilt for even having got to that point.

“But I feel that at moment something else was in control and I was meant to still see beautiful days.”

Andrea’s book This Girl Is On Fire is published on September 29.
