Charlie Wilson Earns Seventh No. 1 On Adult R&B Songs Chart

Charlie Wilson has earned his seventh No. 1 on Billboard‘s Adult R&B Songs airplay chart as “Forever Valentine” rose 3-1 on the list dated May 9.

According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the song climbed to the top thanks to a 13% jump in streams in the week ending May 3.

Bruno Mars co-wrote and co-produced the track and provided backing vocals on the tune as well.

Thanks to the song’s success, Wilson has become the first artist to top the chart in each of the last three decades with new No. 1s.

Wilson’s first No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs list was “Charlie Last Name: Wilson” in 2005. He then got his second No. 1 through “There Goes My Baby” in 2009.

“I am so happy and proud of ‘Forever Valentine,'” Wilson told Billboard. “Bruno had the vision and we always wanted to work together musically. To have a No. 1 song in May with ‘Valentine’ in the title proves what we set out to accomplish in this record.”

“It is actually an ‘Anti-Valentine’s Day’ love song because we want you to celebrate love not just on Valentine’s Day but every day,” he added. “After 20 years since my first hit as a solo artist, it’s amazing to consistently earn these No. 1 songs. I so appreciate radio and the streaming services for all of their support over the years.”
