Christopher Tolkien has sadly died.
The son of J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings, has died according to reports on Thursday (January 16).
“Christopher Tolkien has died at the age of 95. The Tolkien Society sends its deepest condolences to Baillie, Simon, Adam, Rachel and the whole Tolkien family,” the Tolkien Society tweeted.
Christopher was J.R.R.‘s third son, born in 1924, and he helped to assist on the Lord of the Rings franchise, editing and helping to publish his father’s works.
More recently, he worked on J.R.R.‘s Beowulf: A Translation and Commentary, in 2014. He later stepped down as Chairman of the Tolkien Estate.
