Ciara and her NFL superstar husband Russell Wilson didn't let the fact that the 2020 ESPYs couldn't be held as planned stop them from having a celebration.
The couple even went as far as to set up a red carpet—in their own backyard. "I've been coming to this show for the seven years, and one of my favorite parts of the night has always been the red carpet," Wilson, who also served as one of the evening's virtual co-hosts, said. "I figured why should this year be any different. So I put one in my backyard."
“RED CARPET LIFE! #ESPYS 2020 Covid can’t stop us!” the Seattle Seahawks quarterback tweeted. In the video clip, you see a full step-and-repeat setup with Ciara and Wilson posing in bathrobes. They chat with a life-size cutout of NBA star Lebron James and even take a question from a “reporter” who asks if Wilson is a better quarterback than Tom Brady. “Girl, now look at you trying to start some trouble,” Ciara replies.

But it was quite like a normal ESPYs experience. “It really felt like we were on the ESPYs red carpet—until the sprinklers came on,” Wilson says in the video.
Wilson, Megan Rapinoe, and WNBA star Sue Bird (who's dating Rapinoe) kicked off the night as co-hosts with a powerful tribute to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. "Our country's work is not anywhere close to done. We need justice. We need true leadership. We need a change, and we need it now," Wilson said. "I look at my children and I pray for a better future. The only thing that must die is racism. Black lives matter. So where do we go from here? … I see a world of hurt, pain, and despair. But I also see a new generation, a generation that is calling out in desperate need for lasting change."
