Mikey North has played Gary Windass in Coronation Street since 2008 but things have recently taken an “aggressive” turn for his alter ego. The ITV character was seen in distressing break-up scenes with Sarah Platt (played by Tina O’Brien), which the actor has now said were far from easy. The 32-year-old’s pregnant wife Rachael Isherwood said the shoot left him feeling “traumatised”, as the couple spoke out in a joint interview in this week’s OK! Magazine. He went on to credit his co-star, 35, for helping to “turn his time around” in Corrie.
It wasn’t easy. The tears were real.

When asked about the hard-to-watch moment, Mikey revealed: “Tina’s really turned my time around at Corrie.
“Things were going a bit sideways for me, but when our characters got put together, I started enjoying it more than ever.”
The father-of-one continued: “I feel like I’m stretching myself as an actor again. This year’s been the highlight of my time there.
“But when we had to do break-up scenes and I threw her around the room a little bit, it wasn’t easy.
“The tears were real. I give her a lot of credit too.”
It was then that Rachael said to him: “You were quite traumatised, weren’t you?”
Mikey went on to discuss if there were any downsides to playing a villain in the long-running drama.
“Oh, I love it!” he stated. “When I first started people would shout at me in the street but that dies down.
“Now it’s back again! I was asked to introduce a band on stage at a gig in Manchester recently, and I got booed!”
The small screen favourite added: “You almost take it a bit to heart. But wait until you see what happens to Gary in the next six months! I want to punch myself, never mind how everyone else is going to feel.”
It comes after Mikey and Rachael confirmed they had found out the sex of their second child.

It was back in May that they confirmed they were expecting again, following the birth of their son Archie two years ago.
The pair walked down the aisle in an epic winter wedding in 2016 at Curradine Barns in Worcestershire.
Meanwhile, is Ryan Connor dead after Gary Windass’ violent attack in Coronation Street?
The latter has been spiralling out of control after being rumbled by the police when he was questioned about the Underworld factory roof collapse.
To add to his worries, he has had Rick Neelan’s (Greg Wood) associates and daughter on his case about the loan shark’s whereabouts, as he tries to convince them he has been left in charge of the business.
