Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message before her character Sinead Tinker – now Sinead Osbourne – tragically loses her cancer battle in scenes airing on Friday night.
The 26 year old actress thanked fans who have supported her on Coronation Street since she joined the show in 2013.
She also thanked viewers for their support over Sinead’s harrowing cancer battle storyline and how she will miss the character.
Katie wrote: “After nearly 7 wonderful years on the cobbles, tonight Sinead loses her battle with cancer. Ahead of tonights eps I wanted to share my heartfelt love & gratitude for every single fan of the show who has followed her journey. I’m going to miss her & @itvcorrie dearly #corrie.”
During the episode, she tweeted: “If you take anything from tonights episode, please…. GO FOR YOUR SMEARS! It could save your life @itvcorrie #corrie #sinead #cervicalcancer."
She then added: "I’ve liked so many tweets, twitter has stopped me from liking anymore! Thank you all so, so much for spreading the word about cervical cancer. your support is just incredible and unwavering! #sinead #corrie #cervicalcancer."
Katie's character Sinead was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year while she was pregnant with her and husband Daniel’s son Bertie.
However, in tragic scenes, she was told last month that the cancer had returned and was terminal.
Viewers responded to Katie’s tweet to praise her for her portrayal of Sinead’s tragic illness, and for raising awareness surrounding cancer.
One person said: “I have loved watching Sinead grow in Corrie, this past week you have had me in tears , you have been amazing, good luck with everything you do & im going to miss sinead lots xxx.”
Another wrote: “Will be so sad watching tonight but you have really done an incredible job. You should be so proud! lots of love.”

And a third commented: “You've been absolutely amazing! You've really shown more awareness of cancer. You really are inspirational.”
Katie recently appeared on Loose Women, where she discussed her character’s death and the impact playing the character has had on her mental health.
She said: "I watched the press screening on Monday of her final scenes and I can't watch it again.
"I think once we were filming it you couldn't really get out of it, you immerse yourself in the part so much that whenever we went back to Sinead's room, people were just on and off crying, parts of the crew, me and Rob.
"It felt so real and the only way we could play this part was if we tapped our minds into it as it's real, and all of it felt real for me."
She added: "I kind of underestimated the effect it's had on my mental health. I've only just noticed it.
"Walking away from filming and watching it on Monday, that part of me was grieving Sinead and it's bizarre, but I've started doing like a fitness thing to safeguard myself and that's helping me."
"Watching her die was awful but it's raising awareness."
