Danniella Westbrook announces surprising career change after EastEnders snub

Danniella Westbrook has committed to a new surprising career change as a therapist and holistic healer after being ousted from Eastenders once again.

The 48 year old revealed that she is training for the new position after the soap announced that Sam Mitchell would be brought back this year played by actress Kim Medcalf instead of Danniella — who first starred as the character.

Kim took over the role in 2001 up until 2005 as Danniella dealt with issues in her personal life, before she returned to play Sam again in 2009 and 2016 for brief stints.

Now it appears the actress has well and truly moved on from EastEnders as she spoke on friend Paul Danan’s The Morning After podcast about her new career focus.

“I am actually going off to work at a holistic centre in Harrogate. A friend of mine has opened one, they have sound healing, reiki, therapists, all different stuff,” Danniella said.

The ex soap star mentioned that she recently spent time away at a spiritual retreat in Wales, implying the trip as the possible inspiration her new career change as she confirmed that she was now studying for an NVQ in therapy.

"I am learning how to be a therapist. I am getting there. I am training really hard and I am doing loads of different stuff and techniques. I am learning yoga and that too,” Danniella continued.

The former actress was also approached by Kirklees council in Yorkshire to speak to those suffering with addiction to drugs and alcohol and help them with their issues.

Danniella said her time spent helping other addicts has been “better than any drug” after feeling fulfilled at carrying out work that might make a positive change to someone’s life.

“I think for us as well, It’s all about getting that buzz, whether that’s a buzz from audience reaction, a buzz from seeing somebody else thriving or growing, it’s actually so much better than the buzz you would ever get from a drug,” Danniella said.

"As much as I love acting and will always love being an actor… my love for helping other people, especially within this vile viscous illness that we all suffer from, gives me more joy than acting.

“God, if i could have had this bottled as a something I would have taken years ago, that would have been the drug I would have picked".
