Love has no limits for Dennis Quaid.
The 65-year-old actor announced his engagement to Laura Savoie, 26, in late October, but it was the couple’s 39-year age difference that got people talking. Quaid, however, is not fazed by the comments surrounding their ages, for better or worse.
“That was really a laugh,” he said during an interview with The Guardian, published Monday. “I thought it was wonderful, actually.”
The “Parent Trap” actor – whose character in the film was engaged to a 26-year-old gold-digging publicist before his meddling twin daughter intervened – said he has “no control over who you fall in love with.”
“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me,” he added. “I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. … I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that.”

Quaid admitted that the age gap talk “really doesn’t bother us” because “everyone comes from the perspective of their own life and so I can’t comment on the way they feel.”
Despite the criticism, Quaid said Savoie is The One.
“I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is,” he said, referring to his previous marriages to P.J. Soles, Kimberly Buffington and Meg Ryan. “I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
Quaid’s engagement news elicited many responses, including from his real-life ex-fiancée, actress Lea Thompson, and his onscreen fiancée from “The Parent Trap,” actress Elaine Hendrix.
Thompson highlighted the age gap by tweeting: “(Savoie) was -10 when I was engaged to him.” (Thompson and Quaid never married.)
Hendrix kept thing playful, writing, “Watch out for those twins,” referring to long-lost identical sisters in the film who were both played by Lindsay Lohan.
