Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin got married in September 2018, shocking Bieber’s fans. While many wondered how Gomez felt about the situation, she stayed silent – that is, until October 2019, when she released her song “Lose You to Love Me.”
The song details a former relationship, and how Gomez “gave it her all” only to have her heart broken when her ex moved on by replacing her in “two months.”
Most fans immediately assumed that the song was written about Justin Bieber – certainly, the timeline adds up, since Bieber apparently started dating Hailey Baldwin only two months after breaking up with Gomez. While Bieber didn’t speak out directly in response to Gomez’s song, his wife, Hailey Baldwin, did.
How did Hailey Baldwin react to Selena Gomez’s new song?
Only a few minutes after Gomez’s song dropped on October 23rd, Baldwin posted a screenshot of a song titled “I’ll Kill You” to her Instagram stories.
Immediately after Baldwin posted the screenshot, fans lit up social media, believing that the post was a direct response to Gomez’s emotional song. Baldwin, however, shut down rumors that her post was about Gomez or the song, and commented on one of her Instagram posts saying “please stop with the nonsense…there is no ‘response.’” She also said, “this is complete BS.”
Still, fans have their doubts, in spite of Baldwin’s denial. The timeline does seem very suspicious. Gomez, for her part, spoke out not long after the controversy started, and although she didn’t name any names, she encouraged her followers to not embrace negativity and to avoid tearing other women down.
