The Eternals are set to follow in the footsteps of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy as the next great team of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe… and according to the cast of the upcoming movie, they’re the group to beat.
“They’re eternal, and that’s exactly it,” said Bryan Tyree Henry, who plays Phastos, said during a recent cast interview with Variety at Disney’s D23 Expo. “We’re here to save humanity… We built humanity, and we’re here to save humanity… and we are gods, in a way.”

In the world of Marvel Comics, the Eternals (aka homo immortalis) are a race of extremely long-lived beings who were created as an offshoot of early human evolution by interfering aliens known as the Celestials. They possess cosmically-powered abilities such as flight, teleportation and are practically invulnerable to injury, and their prolonged lifespans mean they have been there for pretty much the entire history of the Marvel universe.
“Without us there would be no Avengers, no Guardians of the Galaxy,” said Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo. “There would be no galaxy, so… you’re welcome, Chris Pratt’s character.”
“If they wanted to throw down, they wouldn’t win,” Henry continued. “I’m not trying to start no beef, no street beef, but you know…”
“We could destroy them,” concluded Nanjiani.
That’s fighting talk. But if it comes to a full-on super-brawl, Nanjiani and Henry have some impressive backup: helping round out the team are Kit Harington, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Don Lee, Gemma Chan, Barry Keoghan, and newcomers Lia McHugh and Lauren Ridloff.
The Eternals is released on November 6, 2020.
