The fourth annual all-star “Grammy Salute To Music Legends” is set to air on October 18 in collaboration with PBS‘ “Great Performances” series.
The tribute concert, honoring the Recording Academy’s 2019 Special Merit Awards recipients, was recorded in May at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater.
The recipients of the Special Merit Awards include Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick.
Jeffery Redding is this year’s recipient of the Music Educator Award.
Industry icon Greg Phillinganes was the musical director of the concert, which was hosted by past Grammy nominee Sheila E.
“The celebration and tribute concert features rare performances by honorees and never-before-seen renditions of their classic songs by those they’ve inspired,” the Academy said in a statement.
