Helen Skelton signs off BBC Radio 5 Live for the final time
Countryfile star Helen Skelton shocked fans when she announced she was quitting her BBC Radio 5 Live show live on air over the weekend.
The 40-year-old radio presenter, who split from her ex-husband Richie Myler in April 2022, claimed she was leaving her role in order to spend more time with her children.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star shares eight-year-old son Ernie, six-year-old Louis and baby daughter Elsie Kate with the ruby player, 33.
However, MailOnline claims Helen actually felt forced to step down because her ex Richie allegedly isn’t pulling his weight on the parenting front.
A source told the publication: “Helen is a fighter and will always do the best for her children.

“But she’s been spread fairly wide in terms of taking care of the kids’ needs and, to put it bluntly, Richie is not matching her commitment.
“He has his new baby and rugby career, meaning he hasn’t been able to help as much as he would ideally like,” the source continued.
“And it’s Helen who is making the most sacrifices, as the thought one of her kids could be playing sport with neither of their parents watching and cheering them on, breaks her heart.

“That’s why she felt she had no choice but to quit the Sunday show, despite the fact she didn’t really want to as it was a great opportunity in her career and she loved doing it.”
BBC listeners were surprised when Helen announced her sudden departure last week, as she told co-host Steve Crossman during her final show that she had reluctantly come to a decision.
‘I’m not alright about it but you know, needs must,” she admitted. “The juggle is real. An eight-year-old with a sideline needs me.”
Meanwhile, Richie is in a relationship with the daughter of the multimillionaire President of his club Leeds Rhinos.
He and his girlfriend Stephanie Thirkill, whom he started seeing just months after his split from Helen, have since welcomed a child together back in May.
Helen will be replaced on her radio show by Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, 38.
Express.co.uk has contacted Helen and Richie’s representatives for comment.
