Well… s**t.
Whether Donald Trump acknowledges it or not, Russia has been attacking us for the past few years. All our intelligence agencies have confirmed they are making cyber attacks on us — not just propaganda on social media either, we’re talking about attempts to hack into our energy grid.
No matter how strong and virile Vladimir Putin looks to Trump, the Russian president has been treating us as an enemy for years. And now they have a new superweapon for when they’re ready for the war to turn hot.
And it is some seriously scary stuff.
Video: Remember When Everyone Told Trump NOT To Congratulate Putin?
AP reports Russia’s defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, told Putin the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle is finally fully operational on Friday, over a year after the first video of testing became available.
By “operational” we mean the first unit carrying the weapon, which carries with it a nuclear warhead of up to 2 megatons, has been deployed into combat duty.
The Avangard is capable not just of hypersonic speed, but of breaking the sound barrier 27 times over!
It works by being launched on an intercontinental ballistic missile then separating and firing off at unprecedented speed. It is then able to maneuver at these high speeds in the atmosphere en route to the target, making it incredibly difficult to track, much less to intercept.
As Putin described when he first announced the weapon at his state-of-the-nation address in March of 2018:
“It heads to target like a meteorite, like a fireball.”
Russia is apparently the only country to have hypersonic weapons at the ready right now, with the US still “a couple of years” away from the technology, per Defense Secretary Mark Esper. A similar system is reportedly also being developed by China now.
Putin said Russia had to begin developing this type of weapon because the US developing a missile defense system meant it could protect itself from their attacks — eliminating their weapons as a deterrent against ours.
Russia’s Defense Ministry says they demonstrated the weapon to US inspectors last month as part of the transparency measures required by the the New Start nuclear arms treaty. And the US has no way to deal with it — though they apparently “plan to study” the idea of putting interceptors in space.
For now it seems we’re firmly in the era of mutually assured destruction, meaning if anyone hits anyone with nukes, everyone else is going to get nuked, and we all die in a massive nuclear holocaust.
So yeah… s**t about covers it.
Meanwhile, Trump is trying to convince Americans their enemies are the Ukraine, the FBI, and the free press. Do YOU feel safer under Trump??
