We’ll be honest, we couldn’t imagine anyone but Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine (sorry, Chris Pratt), but what does Jackman himself think about a possible future re-casting?
With the X-Men franchise on a new course following Fox’s merger with Disney–and thus the Marvel Cinematic Universe–the artist formerly known as Logan has offered his thoughts on a new actor taking on the iconic mutant.
Speaking to The Daily Beast about who might one day handle the adamantium in his place, Jackman admitted that he’s come to terms with his departure from the X-Men series.
“It was the right time for me to leave the party – not just for me, but for the character,” he explained. “Somebody else will pick it up and run with it. It’s too good of a character not to.”
Clearly at peace with any potential new take on Wolverine, he added: “It’s kind of like, you’re on your way home and your friend rings you and goes, ‘Oh, dude, a new DJ just came on and the music is awesome, are you going to come back?’

“And you say, ‘Sounds good but… no.’ They’re fine with someone else.” In other Wolverine-related news, Hugh recently confessed to almost being sacked during filming for the first X-Men movie.
Reflecting on his 2000 debut as Wolverine, Jackman revealed that the studio warned him “things weren’t really working out” in the way they’d hoped. “I was about to get fired from my first Hollywood movie – the biggest of my career.”
Fortunately, we all know how this anecdote ends.
