In a new Amazon Prime documentary, Wayne Rooney said he wanted to be remembered for who he is and not for mistakes he had made over the years. The candid film, which takes a look into his career, also includes him and his 35-year-old wife Coleen Rooney discussing the headline-grabbing scandals.
In 2004, the 35-year-old made front page news after claims he had visited a backstreet brothel surfaced.
He later admitted to sleeping with prostitutes, but said he wasn’t settled down with Coleen at the time.
Wayne said in a statement that he was “very young and immature” and regretted it “deeply”.
In the documentary, a tearful Coleen said of his behaviour: “I knew groups Wayne was hanging around with – together with alcohol – not good.
“I forgive him but it wasn’t acceptable.”
Her comments came after a newspaper article, accusing him of visiting a brothel, was shown on screen.
A voiceover could be heard saying he was “making headlines for all the wrong reasons”.
Wayne added of his behaviour: “People still look at me in a different way.
“For me it’s important that people remember me for who I am rather than what I’ve done.”
The couple started dating aged 16 after being friends throughout their teens.
They tied the knot in 2008 and have four sons together; Kai, 11, Klay, eight, Kit, five, and Cass, three.
Coleen addressed Wayne’s visits to brothels in her book Welcome to My World.
She wrote: “The truth is, and I’ve never said this before, at that time in our relationship I’d never even slept with Wayne.
“I was only 16 and we weren’t having that kind of relationship at that stage. We used to meet at the chippy or the cinema.”

The Manchester United star has since been linked to various other accusations of infidelity.
In 2009, the footballer was claimed to have slept with two more females while Coleen was pregnant.
In 2017, eyebrows were raised after he was pictured driving office worker Laura Simpson’s car after a night out.
After pictures emerged, she was reported as saying she had a kiss and cuddle with the father-of-four.
On This Morning, Laura denied she made those accusations and said nothing happened.
Wayne was later arrested for drink driving her car on the night.
At the time of his night out, Coleen was on a holiday with their sons, where she was seen without her wedding ring on.
She later wrote on social media: “Before all the stories begin, Yes, I have put my wedding ring on……. A lot of people will be saying ‘you don’t have to explain yourself, don’t feel like you have to do this’ etc, I know I don’t, but I am and I want to.
“It didn’t feel right wearing my ring, I see it as a sign of commitment and I was unsure what was happening. I don’t always wear my ring day to day, especially when I go the gym.”(sic)
She went on to say: “A few people are probably thinking am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it’s something I want to try and work on.
“Before the headlines start…. No, I’m not taking Wayne back as he’s never left. Yes, it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end.
“I’m not going to list Wayne’s good qualities as a person as I don’t think he deserves it at this time but one thing is that he is a brilliant dad.
“He’s made silly and selfish mistakes, some he’s learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change? In life, you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.”
Back in July this year, he was snapped asleep surrounded by half-naked party girls.
He later claimed he was the victim of a “set up” and made an official report to police.
