Jack Whitehall, 31, and father Michael Whitehall, 80, have become an unlikely duo comedy but despite that they make it work. Ahead of fathers day (Sunday 21, June) Jack celebrates his father in a father’s day special show, Jack Whitehall’s Father’s Day, which sees him look back on their father and son relationship.
Jack and Michael first hit our screens together on Travels With My Father in 2017.
Since then it seems their peculiar dynamic has been a hit with the pair continuing with their travel series expanding to three seasons.
While Jack may be known as the funny man in their relationship, Jack has previously spoken of how really it is his father Michael.
In an interview with the Guardian in 2013, Jack says: “He’s always been the person who’s made me laugh most.”

He went on to say: “He uses humour in a very disarming way.
“I’ve seen how people enjoy his company and have always envied that, and have wanted to aspire to that.”
Michael added that he does get comments saying how funny he is.
He said: “Umm, yeeass. I wouldn’t want you quoting me blowing my own trumpet like this, but a lot of people do say to me, ‘You’re the funniest man I’ve ever met.’
“Yeeass, I do make an effort to be amusing.”
Although while Michael can make be the funny man at a dinner party, he has said he would not be able to take to the stage.
Talking to the Telegraph, Michael said: “I can sit at a dinner table of eight people and be quite amusing, but I couldn’t get up on stage at the O2 Arena. I’d be terrified.”
Jack went on to talk about what he has learnt from Michael.

Jack told the publication: “Having a very dominant father who is a big character and is confident and funny, you can go either way – become sheltered and shy, or you push on and try to become a character yourself.”
Amid the pandemic, the father and son duo have been kept apart amid lockdown restrictions.
The pair recently opened up to the British Comedy Guide on how they have stayed connected.
Jack said: “I’ve missed seeing my dad, we’re a very close family and spend a lot of time together, so it has been quite weird to adjust, but we’ve found a way, and we’ve done lots of Zoom calls and the family WhatsApp group has been really up and running.”
He went on to say how communicating virtually gave him the idea for their Father’s Day special.
Jack added: “And in a way, that’s where this all came from, trying to do what we’ve been doing as a family but for other people’s entertainment.”
Jack Whitehall’s Father’s Day will air tonight on BBC One at 8.30pm.
