Jennifer Lopez is a bona fide icon—and now she has the award to prove it.
Last night, the multi-hyphenate accepted the Icon Award at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles, where her boyfriend, Ben Affleck; his 10-year-old son, Samuel Affleck; and Lopez’s 14-year-old daughter, Emme Muñiz, showed their support from the front row. The accolade honored J.Lo’s decades-long influence in the entertainment industry as a musician, performer, actress, and business mogul.
She accepted the award onstage while wearing a flowing sheer gown in olive green, created by French haute couture designer Stéphane Rolland. Accessories included jewels from Messika.
“I love you guys so much. Thank you,” she began her emotional speech. “I wish I could tell you that awards were the most important thing to me, but that’s not true. Don’t think that I don’t appreciate the shiny, sparkly things, because I do. I cannot lie, everybody knows that I do. But this isn’t why I do this. It’s not what matters the most to me. I really do it for you guys.”
J.Lo also credited her success to her legions of loyal fans across the world. “Because of you, I get to do what I love the most in life, and that is the most wonderful blessing,” she said. “That’s the gift you give me, and I just want to say thank you for that.”
She ended the speech with an inspirational mantra. “Icon, I-con, I can overcome negativity, and so can you, every single moment,” she said. “And let me tell you something else, I am just getting started.”
