It's all go
After my announcement, my Strictly stint has started to feel real as I’ve had to do some media bits. It’s all happening! I haven’t been paired up with a professional yet, so that’s exciting. I can’t wait to find out who I’ll be with.
They’re all so talented and can all move their hips, so I’ll be blessed whatever happens. I’ve never had any dance training before so I’m really excited for the physical side of it. It’s not every day you get to spend time with a professional dancer who will take the time to teach you. It’ll be incredible!
Pregnancy bodies
Kim Kardashian recently said she cried when she was compared to the Duchess of Cambridge while they were both pregnant with their first children in 2013. She said she remembered seeing news articles referring to her as a whale and said the media “brutalised” her. As women, whether we’re pregnant, not pregnant or postpartum, it’s hard not to compare yourself to others. But it’s unfair Kim was treated this way.
We need to learn to keep our opinions on others – especially when it comes to pregnant women – to ourselves. This is someone’s body who is carrying a child, what criticisms could you even come up with. Everyone’s body is so different and the most important thing is that mums can enjoy that moment of becoming a mother instead of worrying about snapping back before they’ve even physically healed.
Sending love
The situation in Afghanistan is very confusing and I don’t know all the ins and outs. I do know the UK is going to take in 20,000 refugees over five years. These people are victims and they are running from people who are causing distress in their own country. We need to help where we can. I’d hope that if we were in a state of distress in the UK, then other countries would help us, too.
Deo or no deo?!
Matthew McConaughey reportedly hasn’t used deodorant for decades and says a man should smell like “a man”. A lot of people now use natural things, like salt-based products, which I think is great. But we live in a society where we have to share things like trains and buses and I think it’s important to think about personal hygiene and standards!
If Matthew’s not using any deodorant, let’s hope he’s showering regularly enough to not get too smelly! We don’t want to smell anyone’s body odour.
Love for Tyrese
Actor Tyrese Gibson has admitted he used to be “so ashamed” of his dark skin and has worked on finding self-love. There is definitely an issue of colourism in the black and Asian communities, but I’m shocked Tyrese has experienced this as I’ve always seen him as a loved, sexy, dark-skinned man who has been so idolised.
I feel as though darker women carry heavier criticisms than men. But clearly, he has had an experience to make him feel this way. Unfortunately colourism does exist but by opening up, Tyrese is helping to continue the conversation.
