George Clooney and Julia Roberts have the sweetest bond, and thanks to their “Ticket to Paradise” press tour, the pair are offering more glimpses into their 20-year friendship. The two, who’ve remained close friends since starring in “Ocean’s Eleven” in 2001, recently spoke about their first impressions of one another, their favorite qualities in each other, and whether they’d ever considered dating in an interview with “Access Hollywood.”
Clooney revealed Roberts’s kindness was the quality he admired most about the star. Roberts, on the other hand, complimented his fortitude, sharing that her first impression was that “he was very suave, gentle.” “You made me laugh,” Clooney said of his initial meeting with Roberts. While the actors were full of praise for one another, they also shared inside jokes and poked fun at each other. Roberts even disclosed her silly nickname for her costar: Mr. Clooney.
When asked if they’d ever implemented a “no dating” policy back in the day before they were in their respective relationships, Roberts said with a laugh, “To date each other? I don’t think we needed to state it. It just seemed the right thing to do.” Clooney added, “Julia was always in a relationship, or I was in a relationship. And we were fast friends right away. So it was nothing, but it’s been nothing but fun for us. So, I don’t think that was ever really a thing.”
It’s hard to imagine a time before they became such close pals. The two, who’ve previously talked about quarantining together while filming their movie in Australia, expanded on the experience. Clooney had been living with his wife, Amal, and their kids, Ella and Alexander, while Roberts stayed in the house below theirs. She even became a part of his kids’ school drop-off, Clooney explained. “We couldn’t get rid of Julia,” he joked, while Roberts responded, “I’m expecting to see a stocking at Christmas.”
Prepare to smile as you watch their delightful interview above.
