Kanye West celebrates the release of his new album, Jesus Is King, with an eventful day in Detroit.
According to the Detroit Free Press, on Friday, the Yeezus rapper threw his famous “Sunday Service” for about 6,000 fans and singers at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre.
Reportedly, the musician, wife Kim Kardashian West, and their children arrived after 1 p.m. in a black Chevy Tahoe.
Per the publication, three buses of choir singers from Chicago sang on stage, while around 2,000 Detroit vocalists were situated throughout the venue.
While the choir crooned numbers such as Hallelujah, Salvation and Glory, Our Lord, How Excellent, and the musician’s Ultralight Beam, Kanye performed a verse from his 2016 song Father Stretch My Hands.
As seen above, Kim posted a video from the extravaganza on Instagram Story, where daughter North West and her dad were filmed singing their hearts out.
That night, West held his “Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience” at the Fox Theatre where fans saw a film, and then listened to the new LP.
Per Kardashian’s IG Story:
While free, general admission tickets were available on Ticketmaster at around 3:30 p.m., they quickly became unavailable.
Prior to the night event, the KUWTK star posted a pic on Twitter of what appears to be the final tracklist for her husband’s latest drop.
Though various publications reported Jesus Is King is not being released as scheduled, Ye’s publicist, Trevian Kutti, told Complex Music the project WILL drop on Friday at 8 p.m. — though the time zone was not specified.
Kardashian first teased the project in August on social media.
In April of this year, the mother-of-four talked to Elle magazine about her man’s Sunday Services, divulging:
“It’s honestly more like a healing experience for my husband. It’s just music; there’s no sermon… It’s definitely something he believes in—Jesus—and there’s a Christian vibe. But there’s no preaching. It’s just a very spiritual Christian experience.”
Despite the “Christian” vibe, the mother-of-four said the event is inclusive to people of all faiths.
“ best friends come all the time and they’re Muslim. All my Jewish friends came on Sunday; they loved it. Everyone that comes understands it’s just a really healing experience with an amazing choir, and amazing messages about love to start off your week.”
Yeezy season is here, y’all!
