Kate Garraway has shared the touching moment her husband Derek Draper woke from his induced coma.
The Good Morning Britain star, 53, has shared updates her husband Derek’s battle with the Covid-19 and its lasting affects as she presented the ITV news show.
Derek, 53, has been in hospital for more than a year. He was placed into an induced coma to help him battle the virus and has since beaten it, but has been left with health complications.
Kate’s husband, who has “no muscle left” and has lost eight stone in his health battle, was left with kidney failure, damage to his liver and pancreas as well as heart failure after beating the virus.

Now, in a documentary called Finding Derek, viewers will explore Derek’s ongoing battle with his health.
In a teaser clip from the ITV documentary, which is set to air at 9pm on Tuesday 23 March, Kate has shared the touching moment Derek awoke from his coma.
Derek is seen in floods of tears as Kate video calls her husband in the clip shown on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday 23 March.
As she holds her phone Kate, who has converted her home for husband Derek’s return, can be heard rejoicing: “He’s back! I’ve been waiting a long time to talk to you. I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud of you.”

The documentary will show how Derek and Kate plan to live their lives after Derek is released from hospital.
Speaking in the doc, Kate said: “If I have to give up work to care for him it’s best to do it now. If he needs 24-hour care, I’ll be the primary carer.
“I’ve a fear of the reality. We’ll have to fall in love again a bit.”
But, Kate doesn’t know when Derek will return home from hospital as his condition hasn’t improved since Christmas, which is the last time Kate saw Derek in person due to the lockdown.

She explained: “Things have regressed a little bit this year since January, but how much that is to do with the restrictions of not being able to visit, is unclear.
“It felt like we were moving forward at Christmas, now it feels like we’ve slipped back.
“And I’ve felt like I’m sort of hanging over the side of a ship, trying to hold onto him, so that when he kind of bobs up from this ocean of unconsciousness, you can see him sort of click in and you don’t know whether it’s because he can suddenly find a way to get out.”
