Lewis Hamilton is 'feeling healthy' after Idris Elba positive for coronavirus

Lewis Hamilton has assured fans he’s ‘feeling healthy’ after his friend Idris Elba tested positive for coronavirus.

The Formula 1 star reassured fans after he was spotted with Idris at an event earlier this month.

‘Hey guys, I hope you’re all staying positive, and keeping busy and healthy,’ he wrote.

‘There’s been some speculation about my health, after I was at an event where two people later tested positive for coronavirus.

‘I wanted to let you know that I’m doing well, feeling healthy, and working out twice a day. I have zero symptoms, and it’s now been 17 days since I saw Sophie [Trudeau] and Idris.

‘I have been in touch with Idris and happy to hear he is ok. I did speak to my doctor and double checked if I need to take a test but the truth is, there are limited tests available, and there are people who need it more than I do, especially when I wasn’t showing any symptoms at all.

‘So what I’ve done is keep myself isolated this past week, actually since practice was cancelled last Friday and kept my distance from people.

‘The most important thing everyone can do is stay positive, social distance yourself as best you can, self isolate if you need to, and regularly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

‘Thank you for all the messages. I’m sending positivity and love from afar. Keep safe. #TeamLH.’

Lewis, Sophie and Idris were seen posing together at a WE Day event on 4 March.

Justin Trudeau and Sophie have been self-isolating, with The Wire actor Idris explaining to fans that he had tested positive.

Idris, who was about to start production on a film when he was tested, said he was ‘worried’ seeing as he has asthma, which puts him at a higher risk of complications from coronavirus.

What does self-isolation mean?

Self-isolation means staying indoors and avoiding all contact with other people for 14 days, according to the NHS.

It means no going to work, school, the shops or even to the park for some fresh air, in order to minimise the risk of passing on Covid-19.

Public transport and taxis are a no-no and you shouldn’t have visitors over, even if you just stay at home.

Anyone in self-isolation is advised to ask friends, family and delivery drivers to pick things up for you and drop them-off. You should put a sign outside telling people you are self-isolating and everything should be left on the floor outside your front door to avoid the risk of further infections.

Those who are self-isolating are still advised to stay away from their pets as much as possible and to wash their hands before and after touching them.

If you live in a house share and have to self-isolate, the advice is to stay in your room with the door closed and only emerge to use communal kitchens, bathrooms and living areas if absolutely necessary.

Who should self-isolate?

The government advises anyone returning from Category 1 areas (Hubei, Iran, Italy and Daegu or Cheongdo in South Korea), to go straight home and self-isolate, even if they don’t display any symptoms.

Travellers should use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next.

Anyone returning from Category 2 areas should self-isolate and call 111 if they have Covid-19 symptoms. You can find the list of those places here.

‘Yes, of course I’m worried. I’m worried about having the virus, I’m worried about having asthma and how that can make things really complicated for me really quickly,’ he said. ‘I’m really worried about whats going on in the world, if I’m honest, I’m worried about how we’re dealing with it.’

He added: ‘I think part of me dealing with this and speaking to you publicly is part of me coping with how the world is dealing with it.

‘I’m proud of Tom Hanks…who came out and said they have it, and been public about it. I was definitely motivated by Tom’s move there. But also, I think, there’s some transparency given to this situation when someone like Tom or myself is in this situation.

‘I’m worried that people aren’t talking to each other about it, I’m worried people are going to stigmatise…I’m worried we’re going to panic and send the whole world into a spin.’
