Liz Hurley’s son Damian opens up on death of dad Steve Bing: ‘Strange and confusing time’

Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian Hurley, 18, took to Instagram today to pay tribute to his dad Steve Bing, who died yesterday at the age of 55. Damian told his 74,000 followers he has been going through a “strange and confusing time” following his father’s death.

Alongside a photo of a beautiful sunset, the actor thanked his followers for their messages of support.

He wrote: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has reached out following the devastating news.

“I’m trying to reply to as many of you as I can, but please know I will always remember your kindness.”

Damian went on to say he was feeling “grateful” that he has been looked after by “phenomenal family and friends” following the tragic news.

He concluded: “This is a very strange and confusing time and I’m immensely grateful to be surrounded by my phenomenal family and friends.”

Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that Steve “died by suicide”. 

Steve’s publicist confirmed the news to Sky and said she was “overwhelmed trying to process this unbelievable and sad event”.

Damian’s mother Liz started dating Steve in 2000 after her split from Love Actually star Hugh Grant and the former couple welcomed their son Damian in 2002.

The student grew up in Gloucester with Liz and her then-husband Arun Nayar, who she married in 2007.

Liz also paid tribute to Steve in view of her 1.7 million Instagram followers alongside a touching statement as she recalled her memories with the late film producer.

The Gossip Girl actress shared a selection of photos of herself and Steve and wrote: “I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us. It is a terrible end.

“Our time together was very happy and I’m posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it’s the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter.

“In the past year we had become close again. We last spoke on our son’s 18th birthday.

“This is devastating news and I thank everyone for their lovely messages.”

In one picture shared by The Royals star, the former couple can be seen smiling for the camera as Steve lovingly placed his arm around her during a trip together.

In another snap, Liz was pictured sitting on her former beau’s lap as he smiled for the camera.

Steve was best known for writing 2003’s Kangaroo Jack and 1984 movie Missing in Action.

He was the founder of Shangri-La Entertainment, which had a variety of interests in property construction, entertainment and music.

At the age of 18, he inherited an estimated $600 million from his grandfather Leo S. Bing, who had made his money in the 1920s in New York real estate.

Back in 2012, he donated a portion of his wealth to Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge, which encouraged wealthy people to contribute towards philanthropic causes.
