Nick Cannon has apologised for any hurt he caused after announcing that he was going to be a father for the eighth time, not long after his son Zen died.
The star surprised fans this week when he announced he and model Bre Tiesi were expecting a child.
In December, he shared the heartbreaking news that his son Zen, who he shared with Alyssa Scott, had died.
Speaking on his talk show, Nick said he ‘misspoke’ and ‘could have done better’ when speaking about the baby news.
‘I actually would like to take a moment just to be honest and even take a moment to listen and reflect on what I was saying and what’s popping and apologize properly,’ he said.
‘I wish to always protect and respect the privacy of the mothers of all my children and you know me. I just really want to be sincere and whether that’s someone who’s new or someone who’s had my child and I have such a great relationship and great admiration for everyone in my life.
‘I believe I probably, no, I failed to do so on Monday because it was a lot going on. I didn’t know how to explain it, I didn’t know what to say, so I was probably talking too fast and probably misspoke and I know I could do better when dealing with delicate and sensitive discussions.
‘So I promise you, I promise the mothers of my children, I promise my family that I would do better, continue to be more understanding, caring, compassionate like they often show me, each and every day through these processes.’
Nick’s apology appears to be in response to Alyssa who, after the baby news was announced, said: ‘It is painful having my son be apart of conversations that aren’t in alignment with his light and legacy. It isn’t something I chose for him or myself.’
The TV host, 41, welcomed his seventh child with model Alyssa in June of last year, and shared news of his death in an emotional monologue.
At just two months old, Zen was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and had a shunt placed in his skull to drain excess pressure.
The couple decided to not pursue any further invasive treatments, and just focus on making his time as ‘happy’ as possible, as they didn’t want him ‘to suffer’.
Nick heaped praise on Alyssa for being his ‘rock’ throughout a tough few months.
