Richard Osman, 48, is best known for creating and co-hosting BBC quiz show Pointless alongside Alexander Armstrong, 49. However, the multi-talented star is also a writer, having penned his debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, over the past couple of years. In addition to his upcoming crime novel, which will be published next year, Richard has also released non-fiction books including The World Cup of Everything: Bringing The Fun Home and The A-Z of Pointless, which boasts questions and trivia from the show. Earlier this week, The Pointless favourite responded to a challenge when short story award-winning writer Luan Goldie threw down the gauntlet on Twitter.
Delighted by a milestone moment, Nightingale Point author Luan tweeted her 504 followers saying: “I’m actually on a table @Waterstones. I wish I could tag all my teachers in this.”
Bookstore Waterstones soon shared the post with their own 249,000 followers, looping in Richard as they joked:“This is great news, as long as @LuanGoldie means her book.
“We don’t encourage authors to pop themselves on tables as a general rule,” they quipped.
“Not since that time @neilhimself and @richardosman got into a competition to be highest up and built precarious book towers. Oh the scenes.”
However, Luan mischievously insisted she could compete with six-foot-seven Richard.
“I’m also unusually tall, think I could take on @richardosman,” she tweeted.
“This is a contest we want to see,” Waterstones replied. “Once Health and Safety have signed it off, obviously. Up for it, @richardosman?”
Sounding confident, Richard wrote back in view of his 797,000 followers: “You’ve taken on the wrong guy here, Luan.”
“Look, I’m a primary school teacher and I’m launching a book on the hottest day of the year,” she joked. “I’m fearless!”
Demonstrating his support, Richard added: “As the proud son of a primary school teacher, good luck!”
Richard is best known for fronting Pointless, the game show he created and which first began airing in 2009.
He also features on the celebrity version and hosts Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Richard previously admitted he didn’t think Pointless would take off in the way it did, telling The Sunday Post: “I was very happy getting on with my career, working behind-the-scenes on a lot of shows.
“We were working on the idea of Pointless, running it through, trying it out on different people — basically the job I’ve been doing for many years — when I was asked by the BBC to be co-presenter.
“I’ve been around long enough to know most shows don’t work,” he continued.
“I thought it would be over in six weeks and just be something to tell the grandkids about.”
Pointless Celebrities airs tonight at 7.35pm on BBC One.
