This year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up was arguably the BBC contest’s most varied when it was first announced, including a number of celebrities from all walks of life. Featuring a Viscountess in the form of Emma Weymouth to a Paralympic Table Tennis player in Will Bayley, the famous faces have left fans intrigued as to each of their respective careers in the spotlight. None more so than Saffron Barker who made a name for herself thanks to social media.
Why is Strictly’s Saffron Barker famous?
Saffron Barker’s first stab at stardom came in teen pop quartet Born2Blush.
Alongside her three close friends Libby, Jasmine and Georgia, the foursome set up their own YouTube channel and began uploading videos of their songs.
The group’s first video was uploaded in January 2015 and was a cover of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars chart-topper Uptown Funk.
Born2Blush then shared a music video to their original track 24Seven, which has racked up 370k views and counting.

For Barker, she decided to set up a YouTube channel of her own in 2015.
The Strictly star began uploading videos from her holidays in the USA as well as Q&As and comedy skits with her boyfriend of the time Jake Mitchell.
Both Barker and Mitchell quickly gained thousands of followers, making them one of Youtube’s most-talked-about couples.

Barker’s popularity on the online video platform was mirrored by her presence on social media.

In 2018, her book Saffron Barker Vs Real Life: My perfectly filtered life (Sort of. But not really at all) hit shelves.
With such a young and loyal fanbase behind, it was only a matter of time before she ditched the computer screen for TV screens.
So far, Barker has managed to cement her place as one of the frontrunners for the entire series.
She even received her first perfect score of 10 from guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro in Week Five (October 19).
Whether she and Pritchard will lift the Glitterball Trophy will be revealed by the end of the series.
Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues every Saturday on BBC One.
