Savannah Guthrie is heartbroken after her “adored” NBC colleague died after contracting coronavirus.
The “Today” anchor — who’s been filming the show live from her basement as a precaution after suffering cold symptoms — told how she had spent months on the road with audio technician Larry Edgeworth.
NBC chairman Andy Lack broke the news of Edgeworth’s passing on Friday.
Guthrie, 48, posted a photo of him on Instagram, writing: “My heart breaks this morning at the loss of NBC audio technician Larry Edgeworth due to COVID19. I adored Larry.
“We traveled together for two straight months on a campaign in 2008 and he was always the most warm, most professional, most loving. All hours of the day and night, no matter how hungry or tired or stressed we were – he was always a joy.
“He loved his work and excelled at it. He loved his colleagues and boy did we love him. Larry, dear, I will miss you. My deepest condolences and prayers to his family.”
Lack said that Edgeworth had “suffered from other health issues that led him to succumb to the illness,” and was a beloved member of the team. “Many of you were fortunate enough to work with Larry over the years, so you know that he was the guy you wanted by your side no matter where you were.”
Lack continued, “Stacy Brady says he was known as the ‘gentle giant who would give you the shirt off his back.’”
Over the past week, NBC has been operating with a skeleton staff at its 30 Rock headquarters in Midtown Manhattan.
“Today” co-hosts Al Roker and Craig Melvin have been working from home after a staffer on the show’s third hour tested positive for coronavirus. That employee is recovering well, sources told The Post.
