On today’s Loose Women, Coleen Nolan introduced the topic of NHS maternity units after a report leaked to The Independent contained failings Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust from more than 40 years. The investigation singled out the deaths of at least 42 babies and three mothers at Shrewsbury between 1979 and 2017.
Speaking about the report, Stacey said: “It’s just harrowing, it really is a failing in the system and no one can deny that.
“I don’t know how to feel about this in general but when I had Leighton, the hospital that I had Leighton in had had some red flag incidents and most of the people when I said I was giving birth said ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you’re doing that.”
She continued: “But the reality is hospitals all over the country are having these incidents because they are severely understaffed and underfunded.”
The former X Factor finalist went on to say she had nowhere else other than her local hospital to give birth, as she spoke about “problems” in the maternity units.

“There are fundamental problems within the NHS, especially when it comes to maternity and it’s making it very difficult to find a hospital anywhere that hasn’t has these failings happened,” she stated.
“The hospitals where I gave birth to Leighton and Rex in was the only hospital available to me so where else do I go?”
Stacey said she had to simply put her faith in the NHS and hope she would have successful, easy births.
“I just had to believe in our NHS and believe they were doing all they could to come back from the failings that they had and they did,” she told her fellow panelists.
“And, essentially they worked much harder on the ward and they brought the hospital back to where the hospital should have been and the standards it should have been at.”
She continued: “But, it took a long time and it took people believing in it and accepting there were problems that needed to be fixed to get to that place where people would feel comfortable to give birth.”
Stacey believes the only way to help improve the maternity service is by pumping money into the NHS and paying staff members more.
“There is no other way other than pumping way more more money into it, looking after our staff properly,” she said.

Also on the show, the panelists discussed the prospect of getting married again after being divorced, with Stacey revealing it’s not at the “forefront” of her mind.
Revealing her uncertainty of tying the knot to beau Joe Swash, she said: “I’ve always dreamed of having a wedding, I don’t know now if because I’m older, I have children, I’m in a relationship that I would absolutely love [to].”
She went on: “Marriage isn’t at the forefront for us, I feel like everything else comes first.

“I’m not ultra religious it’s not something I feel like we need to have.”
Stacey recently spoke to Express.co.uk about getting married, and said it’s not a “necessity”.
“I’ve always dreamed of the fairytale wedding but the more people say are you going to get married, the more I’m like, ‘Erm not right now’,” Stacey spilled.
“We really want to focus on our children and work and giving them the best life and then maybe one day we will think about getting married, but it’s definitely not a necessity.”
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV from 12.30pm.
