Strictly: Layton Williams earns high scores in week one
Layton Williams has claimed he will “get the last laugh” as he responded to criticism for wearing a dress on Strictly Come Dancing.
The 29-year-old is best known for playing Stephen Carmichael in the BBC series Bad Education, but first shot to stardom when he appeared in the West End theatre production of Billy Elliot.
During Movie Week, Layton and his partner Nikita performed a Viennese Waltz to There Are Worse Things I Could Do from the hit musical Grease.
Layton portrayed the iconic character of Betty Rizzo and became the first male on Strictly Come Dancing to take to the dancefloor in a dress.
He has now fired back at trolls, saying to the Liverpool ECHO: “What you see on the show is what life is like for me off the show. I would never do something I’m not comfortable with just for the sake of it.

“I’m not here to win the hearts of bigots but what I am here to do is to clap back if they have something to say.
“There have always been homophobes and there have always been racists, but I will get the last laugh.
“I just want to be a beacon of hope and light for younger people watching.”
Layton has also opened up about how his partner Nikita is “pushing him” during rehearsals.
Speaking to Alan Carr on the podcast Life’s a Beach, Layton explained how exhausting the competition has been so far.
