Wendell Pierce is putting his name in the hat to take over the role of Cleveland Brown.
The Suits actor, who famously starred as Meghan Markle’s father Robert Zane on the TNT series, volunteered to take the role after it was announced that Mike Henry stepped away from it.
Mike, a white man, made a statement over the weekend about stepping away after several other white actors stepped away from their own roles voicing characters of color.
“Now that Mike Henry has consciously given up the role of Cleveland. I am publicly starting a campaign to voice the role myself on The Cleveland Show,” he wrote.
While technically Wendell can not voice the character on The Cleveland Show (it was cancelled in 2013), he is still able to voice the part on Family Guy.
If you missed it, this other actor revealed they regret voicing another character of color on a popular Netflix series.
