Throughout their marriage, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have been through so much together. They’ve welcomed two adorable kids, Luna and Miles, and had been expecting a third baby in 2020. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened, and the pregnancy ended with the loss of their son, whom they named Jack, that September.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote in an Instagram post on Sept. 30, 2020, captioning heartbreaking black-and-white photos of herself and Legend mourning Jack at the hospital. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.” She added, “Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
Since then, the model has been open about grieving Jack on social media, as well as in an October 2020 post shared on Medium. On Feb. 20, 2021, what would’ve been Jack’s due date arrived, according to People. Read on for details on how Chrissy Teigen honored her late son on that special day.
Chrissy Teigen honored baby Jack in sweet Instagram snap
On her Instagram Stories, Chrissy Teigen paid tribute to her baby, Jack, by posting a photo of her wrist wearing three letter bracelets, one each with the names of her kids — including Jack. Alongside a purple heart emoji, Teigen wrote a message to her late son (via People): “Today was your due date. We love you forever.”
Understandably, it was a date that was still very much on Teigen’s mind throughout her grieving process. Earlier that same month, the Lip Sync Battle host, who’d previously expressed her painful “regret” on social media over never looking at Jack’s face after his birth at 20 weeks, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and talked about the emotions of the previous few months, which would’ve been her pregnancy’s third trimester.
“Even thinking back to it now, I am still in therapy about it and I’m still coming to terms with it,” Teigen told host Ellen DeGeneres. “I have maternity clothes, and there are things that I bought for my eighth month and my ninth month. So it’s just hard because he would’ve been born this week, so you look at those things and you have these constant reminders.”
