Josie Gibson has opened up about her television career as she reflected on her success in a new interview. The This Morning presenter said that her grandmother had encouraged her to secure a retail job because “you never know what’s around the corner”.
Her comments come after she was widely praised by viewers when she replaced Holly Willoughby at the last minute on the ITV daytime show last year.
The regular host had fallen ill and Josie, 36, was asked to step in alongside Phillip Schofield.
Addressing her career progression, the Big Brother star has enjoyed a couple more stints on the This Morning sofa.
Josie said that her rise has been remarkable as she’d only recently considered working at a supermarket instead.
“It was only a few years ago that my nan suggested I apply for a job at Lidl because they are good payers,” Josie told The Sun.
“I think something has always had my back, I don’t know what it is. I suppose I’m quite religious.”
She continued: “Then again, you don’t know what’s around the corner — it could be here today and gone tomorrow, so you’ve got to enjoy it.
“My family have been my biggest fans and supporters of all. I’ve got a massive family and I think I’ve received a message from them all, and I haven’t been able to get back to each one.”
Bristol-born Josie won Big Brother in 2010 and later took part in Ultimate Big Brother.
She joined This Morning in 2019 to present the short competition VTs but has now moved into larger presenting roles.
The on-screen star also touched on her weight loss journey and how she feels more body confident.
The ITV star has gone from a size 20 down to a size 14 as she detailed her new weight goals.
She also dished on her love life, saying she would like to start dating again but is too busy working and looking after her son Reggie, three.
Meanwhile, the former Big Brother became a hit with This Morning viewers back in November when she was drafted into Holly’s slot at the last minute.
She ended up hosting for three days while the regular presenter was off sick for three days with a stomach bug.
Josie then returned in the lead-up to Christmas alongside Vernon Kay, who was making his hosting debut.
