We’re less than three hours away from watching Brad Pitt and Laura Dern absolutely kill it on the Oscars red carpet! But in the meantime, let’s take a look at how the red carpet is literally falling apart because it’s raining so much. No exaggeration, the roof is caving in as we speak. Yes, it does rain in Los Angeles!
Unfortunately, it seems as though the 5-day forecast was not taken into account when planning this event because the plastic roof hanging over the carpet has become a mini pool. And according to The New YorkTimes and one panicked photographer, the tarps are beginning to leak. Please witness the utter chaos going down right now:
The poor life-size Oscar trophies had to be wrapped up in some creepy cellophane wrapping and I, for one, will never recover from this haunting image:
(This is my—and every red carpet intern’s—nightmare.)
Some of the event staff have taken to using long poles to push the plastic roof up and try to make the rain slide down. Uh, hopefully that plan works because if not, everything might collapse and all the celebs may end up looking like Mia Thermopolis in her broken-down car.
Crews are coming in to get rid of water that pooling on the top of the tent. Photogs and press are cheering #Oscars pic.twitter.com/ADlWVdGnP8
So some men on a podium are poking the huge pools of water gathering in the plastic ceiling over the red carpet – they’re forcing the water to com splashing down. There’s a lot of it. #Oscars pic.twitter.com/TmXaZJj9lu
Basically, the Oscars are already off to a rocky start. Honestly, the only thing that could make this night worse is if M*rri*ge St*ry wins Best Picture over Parasite.
The Oscars officially begin at 8 p.m. EST tonight on ABC. If you don’t have a TV, head right this way to figure out how you can stream it without having to text your ex’s mom for her logins.
