Iconic TV presenter Vernon Kay has the luxury of travelling the world in his role as presenter for The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
But the star admitted it is job as a busy and in-demand TV presenter does come with a downside – long stints away from wife Tess Daly and their two daughters, Phoebe, 17, and Amber, 12.
Chatting to OK! while in Mexico, the 47 year old shared that there are a few "emotionally stretching" things he misses.
He explained: "This weekend Amber has her first disco at school so I'll miss that but Tess sends me loads of pictures."
Vernon's next stop for his Formula E presenter duties is in Rome, and while he travels a lot he admits he'll sometimes bring the family along.
He said: "It's one of those things where I'll go to a city then tell Tess and the kids about it and say we've got to come here.
"So then we'll plan somewhere. We did Rome which we'd never done as a family so we went there, and it's all about finding a nice balance.
"I went to China and there's not really much going on there for the kids as it was quite intense. It's nice to go around the world and experience things then relay it back home and tell Tess we should come back and show the kids."
Vernon has a close relationship with his children and he admitted they're "used to" his and wife Tess' fame.
The Family Fortunes star shared: "They understand who I am now, and as Phoebe's getting older she's getting into music which was relevant when I was doing T4.
"I've got a gallery of pictures in frames in the garage from when I met famous bands and singers, and she's started listening to Destiny's Child and I'd casually say 'ah, I interviewed them,' and she'd be shocked and then I'd show her the picture. That's very cool from their perspective."
Tess Daly and Vernon Kay
Despite this, Vernon admits that the only time his teenage daughters have watched him is during his 2020 stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!.
The down-to-earth star from Bolton revealed that the girls don’t tune in to watch him present the coverage, unlike legions of motorsport fans.
He continued: “I’m not going to lie, the only time the kids have watched me on TV was for I’m A Celebrity. They’re both active and sitting in front of the TV isn’t what they’re into.”
Although Phoebe and Amber have seen their parents' glamorous careers flourish, Vernon doesn't have a desire to see Amber and Phoebe follow in their footsteps.
“We’re not going to encourage them to ‘go and speak to that person’,” Vernon said. “Tess and I were brought up with a work ethic where we learnt no one is going to give you anything. I want them to find their own feet first.”
Channel 4 will be broadcasting all 16 rounds of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on terrestrial television, whether live or on highlights programme.
