For those who didn’t immediately buy September 2019’s issue of British Vogue and tape it to their bedroom walls, know that Meghan Markle channeled her inner Miranda Priestly and fully took it over. As the guest editor, Meghan selected 15 “brilliant female changemakers who have had a laudable impact in recent times and who are set to reshape society in radical and positive ways in the future.” Together, changemakers like Jameela Jamil, Greta Thunberg, Gemma Chan, Laverne Cox, and Jane Fonda all made up the cover of the “Forces for Change” issue. But the best part about all of this is not that Meghan has a future as an editor (that’s pretty effing exciting, though), but that these cover stars didn’t even know Meghan was behind the issue until she surprised them.
This afternoon, British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful posted a video of the moment he and Meghan called everyone and told them why Meghan wanted to celebrate them. The short film begins with Meghan and Edward speaking about how the whole project came to be—Meghan initially reached out for help with Smart Works before giving him a little nudge by asking if she could be the first person in history to guest edit the magazine. Like any person with their wits about them, Edward was like, “Yes, please!”
After talking about the impactful magazine they produced, Meghan surprised Edward with some party hats before they jumped in and started calling the cover stars to reveal Meghan had a hand in everything.
The newsstand sales numbers are in for 2019, and #BritishVogue’s September 2019 #ForcesForChange issue, guest edited by The Duchess of Sussex @SussexRoyal with Editor-in-Chief @Edward_Enninful, was the fastest-selling issue in the magazine’s 104-year history, selling out in 10 days. It was also the biggest-selling issue of the decade. In celebration, the magazine is releasing a previously unseen film the #DuchessofSussex made at the time with Edward and the Forces For Change cover stars. Thank you to all our loyal readers – here’s to 2020. Directed and edited by @Kloss_Films.

In short: I am fully crying in the club right now just imagining being Yara Shahidi and hearing Meghan say, “I kid you not, the very first name that I said I wanted on the cover was you.” And when Jane Fonda told her, “Meghan, I’m so proud of you for using your amazing platform and your strong voice, and I’m so honored to be a part of it with all those other amazing women” the tears continued to flow.
TBH, if this didn’t fill your heart with pure joy, please watch this again with the volume all the way up and consider seeking help.
