There’s no doubt that Steve Irwin would be proud of his daughter, Bindi Irwin, if he were alive today. The Crocodile Hunter would also be excited about becoming a grandfather, as Bindi is due to have her first child soon.
The conservationist has followed in her father’s footsteps and recently spoke about how her dad would have reacted to becoming a grandparent. “He would’ve been a good, good grandpa,” she told ET. “Yeah, he really would’ve been. I don’t think we would’ve ever seen our daughter. He would’ve just whisked her away into the zoo and it would’ve been perfect. But it is so nice that we’ll be able to introduce her to her grandfather through all of the documentaries. It’s really special.”
Irwin died in 2006, and his family has never forgotten him and have done their best to honor his legacy. Bindi even paid tribute to her dad last year during her wedding to Chandler Powell. “Mum helped me get ready, [my brother] Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband, and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love,” she wrote on Instagram.
Bindi Irwin will make sure to teach her baby about Steve Irwin
The whole family is looking forward to teaching Bindi’s baby about her famous grandfather, with Robert adding that he’s going to be a doting uncle. “She can have whatever she wants and do whatever she wants!” he told ET. “It’s gonna be awesome.”
Bindi paid tribute to her dad in a recent Instagram post, recreating a picture of her parents. In the original picture, Bindi’s dad kisses her mom’s belly during her pregnancy with Bindi’s younger brother, Robert. Bindi and her husband posed in the same manner in their restaging, with Bindi writing in the caption, “Recreating a very special moment. Third trimester love.”
Even though Irwin is no longer with us, Bindi has stated in the past that she still feels his presence. “His spirit lives on in everything we do,” she said in a video of her wedding for Animal Planet (via ET Canada).
