According to a news article shared on the ‘Murder on My Mind’ hitmaker, the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirms two inmates at the jail, where the rapper is currently confined, are infected with COVID-19.
AceShowbiz –YNW Melly is another celebrity who has joined the long list of famous people being infected with coronavirus. On Thursday, April 2, an administrator of the rapper’s Instagram account revealed that the incarcerated star has tested positive for COVID-19.
“Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail,” read the post. Citing his health condition, the “Mixed Personalities” hitmaker will “be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus.”
The statement additionally asked his fans and followers “for your support” and stated that Melly “hopes … to recover soon.” It concluded with, “#prayformelly send positive energy to him please.”
In another post, the administrator shared a news article which reported about two confirmed coronavirus cases at the Broward jail. “Two Broward jail inmates are infected with COVID-19, according to information released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Thursday,” part of the article read. “The news comes as prosecutors weigh early release options for nonviolent inmates.”
Melly, whose real name Jamell Maurice Demons, and fellow rapper YNW Bortlen a.k.a. Cortlen Henry were charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the October 26, 2018 fatal shootings of their friends Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr.
Authorities purport that Melly conspired with Bortlen to stage the double-murder of Williams and Thomas Jr. and make it appear as if they were fatally injured in a drive by shooting. Bortlen allegedly drove the victims to the hospital where they later succumbed to their wounds.
Back in December 2019, Melly’s mother Jamie Demons-King announced that her son was due to be coming out of jail in March of this year. However, late last month she suggested that Melly’s release had been delayed due to coronavirus. “thought he was sposed to been out whaat happened,” a disappointed fan asked, to which Jamie responded, “@__shayy__babbyy__ Coronavirus happened.”
