Bandai Namco was banking on Elden Ring’s success to rub off on Armored Core 6 and it looks like that’s exactly what’s happening.
After a 10-year hiatus, it seems as if Armored Core 6 is doing wonders for FromSoftware’s mecha series. We certainly enjoyed it, despite not being particularly enarmoured with any of the previous games, and if its Steam stats are anything to go by, we’re not the only ones.
The game launched just a few days ago, on August 25, and while there are no hard sales figures yet, because of the bank holiday, Armored Core 6 seems to be off to a strong start.
At the time of writing, it sits in Steam’s top 10 most played games at ninth place and is Steam’s fourth best-selling game, only trailing behind Baldur’s Gate 3, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Starfield.
Considering Baldur’s Gate 3 has been dominating Steam since it launched and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the longest running games on Steam, it’s impressive that the new Armored Core has caught up to them despite a decade long absence.
It was actually outselling Baldur’s Gate 3 for a brief time at launch, although it’s dipped back down below it since.
In terms of player stats, it’s been outperforming every other FromSoftware game available on Steam. It’s all-time player peak (as in highest number of concurrent players) is 156,171, which it achieved just one day after launch.
The only other FromSoftware game it trails behind is, unsurprisingly, Elden Ring, which boasts a whopping all-time peak of 953,426 players. Again, though, the fact that Armored Core 6 is beating the rest of FromSoftware’s library is nothing to be sneezed at.
There aren’t enough Armored Core fans on PC to have this sort of influence so it’s obvious that Elden Ring’s popularity has encouraged many new players to give the game a go, which will certainly be encouraging for FromSoftware.
In fact, that’s exactly what publisher Bandai Namco was counting on according to Arnaud Muller, CEO of Bandai Namco Europe, who commented as much just a few days ago.
‘Thanks to Elden Ring, FromSoftware has become a seal, a guarantee of quality, and therefore people will see that the Metacritic of this game is great, [that] it’s challenging but very rewarding, [and say] ‘I wanna try that game,’’ Muller told GamesIndustry.biz.
‘We are not going to be able to match Elden Ring numbers but we will way surpass what Armored Core previous games have done.’
Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
