Christina Aguilera has reflected on her sex life and the persona she ‘owned’ during her younger years.
The Lady Marmalade singer shot to superstardom as a teenager and became an icon when she took on a new direction with her 2002 album, Stripped, dropping bangers including Dirrty, Beautiful and Can’t Hold Us Down.
Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 42-year-old – who recently launched a sex toy collection – opened up about her sexualized persona during those years, and shared that she lost her virginity later in life.
Touching on her relationship history, and not being linked to many famous faces when she was younger, she insisted: ‘I didn’t really have time for that. I always went for things that I would feel safe about.
‘It’s so funny that I gave this persona because I probably was the last person to lose my virginity.
‘It was something that was for me. I guess that’s why my messages went the way they did too because I owned it first, maybe.
‘It doesn’t matter how it goes down, as long as you find your way and your path with being comfortable with yourself.’
When asked about the age she was when she had sex for the first time, Christina said: ‘It was later than you would think, given the girl that was doing Dirrty and all this stuff. It’s more of a funny thing looking back.
‘I had certain dancers that were close. You’re traveling a lot and you have accessibility to only so many things. It is what it is…
‘A lot of things where I’m like, “Maybe I should have realized, he wasn’t looking at me. He wasn’t interested in me. He was looking at him.”
‘A lot of things where I’m like, “Oh, sad!” I feel bad for my younger self.’
Christina was married to music producer Jordan Bratman, who she shares son Max with, for five years, before they split in 2010.
Following their divorce, she started dating production assistant Matthew Rutler, and has been engaged to him since 2014 – welcoming their daughter Summer that same year.
Explaining why she steered away from dating fellow celebrities, she added: ‘I’ve had my experiences… But my life is hectic enough, and this is a very narcissistic industry. My anxieties couldn’t take somebody that did the exact same thing I did.
‘I know how this goes. I’m too vulnerable for this. I’m too sensitive to be so paranoid.’
