Dick and Angel Strawbridge closing company after Escape to Chateau was axed

Dick and Angel Strawbridge were dropped by Channel 4 following an investigation into their conduct, and they are now closing down a company that bears the chateau’s name.

The couple owns Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson Limited and public records on Companies House show that they have an active proposal to strike off the business.

The private company was initially set up in 2017, but the application to close it was made on May 9 this year by the directors – Dick, 63 and Angel, 45.

They received a notice in response on May 23, which informed them that it would be dissolved within two months unless ’cause is shown to the contrary.’

The website for the Chateau, where the couple also lives, informs visitors that they are currently working on a backlog of weddings due to Covid-19 so are not taking new bookings. While events including ‘Chateau Under the Stars’ and ‘Working Garden Day’ are currently unavailable.

The descriptions read: ‘Unfortunately our events at The Chateau are currently unavailable whilst we play catch-up! Keep checking back for more details.’

The run-down 45-room chateau in France’s Pays de la Loire region was bought for just £280,000 in 2015 by the pair and they transformed it into an upmarket wedding venue that has now been valued at £2 million.

The renovations were covered on their Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau, as well as general family life.

Last month, it was confirmed that the show was over after Channel 4 ordered an independent investigation into their conduct.

A spokesperson for the channel told Metro.co.uk: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’

Production company Two Rivers Media also added: ‘We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment.’

This comes after three of Dick and Angel’s former colleagues claimed to Deadline that they clashed with producers, while a further source alleged they were a ‘nightmare to work with.’

A source said: ‘There has been a deteriorating relationship between Two Rivers and Dick and Angel’s Chateau TV for various reasons and it all came to a head.’

‘Producers turn them into this perfect, brilliant, funny couple. They’re that on camera, but that’s about it,’ another source added. However, one producer described them as ‘warm and welcoming.’

‘[They are] just spiky and volatile people,’ an insider added to Mail Online.

In 2021, sources from Escape To The Chateau’s former production company, Spark Media, claimed to The Times Dick and Angel were ‘abusive and bullying’ and had made filming an ‘anxiety-inducing ordeal.’

The couple posted on their Instagram that ‘there are two sides to every story’, and claimed ‘it was a Strawbridge family decision early last year’ to conclude the show.

Metro.co.uk have contacted Dick and Angel’s representatives for comment.
