Gutted Ed Sheeran reveals real reason Las Vegas show was cancelled last minute

Ed Sheeran has given further ‘context’ to his show cancellation after announcing this weekend that he would not be performing in Las Vegas, hours before taking to the stage.

The singer, 32, announced yesterday that he had encountered ‘challenges’ in the lead-up to the show, making it ‘impossible’ to go ahead with the gig despite fans already being in line.

‘I’m so sorry,’ he added in a social media statement. ‘I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it.’

Ed confirmed that the gig will be rescheduled to Saturday, October 28 and ‘all purchased tickets will be valid for that date.’

‘I’m so, so sorry,’ he reiterated, signing off.

Following reports on the show’s last-minute cancellation, the Grammy winner was keen to set the record straight.

Taking to Instagram again, Ed reposted a snippet of an article that claimed there was a ‘flooring problem’ in the venue.

‘Rubber tiling had become unstuck – causing two tall towers to slip overnight by about a foot each,’ the report also said.

The outlet added that ‘engineers tore the rig apart and reinforced the rebuild but both towers were still found to be shifting at the Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.’

In his caption, Ed explained that the cancellation was due to a ‘safety issue.’

‘A little bit more context on the cancellation yesterday,’ he began.

‘It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I’m not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything.

‘I really am gutted, this was very much out of my control but I do take full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation.’

He continued: ‘Of course refunds are available at point of purchase, and there is a rescheduled show October the 28th if people still want to come, I promise it will be special.

‘Nothing will take away from the effort people went to to get to Vegas though and I’m sorry it wasn’t communicated sooner to the people waiting outside.

‘We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn’t for safety reasons.’

Ed signed off: ‘Sorry again to everyone affected, and hopefully see you in October x’

The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker was met with a load of support from fans in the comments.

One person commented: ‘The safety and health of the fans, the whole crew and you are obviously more important than a concert! I hope people will finally understand this and stop the hate! We love you Ed x’
